PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:
  • Packing cigarettes to ensure availability for the wrapping process 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    To enter a learning programme for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have :
  • Literacy and numeracy at NQF level 2
  • Knowledge of the application of quality control on the final product
  • Knowledge of preparing a cigarette packer for production
  • Introduction to the Tobacco Manufacturing Industry 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • The learner is expected to perform the specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard with minimal supervision, but with access to work-site procedures and operating instructions
  • The scope of this unit standard deals with the packing of cigarettes after the preparing of the cigarette packer for packing and before shutdown
  • Material includes, but is not limited to, cigarettes, adhesives, blanks, metalised paper, stamps and shoulder board
  • Equipment includes, but is not limited to, adhesive pot brushes, adhesive applicators, folders, code blocks, drying drum, conveyer belts, detectors and suction cups

    Assessment criteria

    Assessors will observe, confirm and evaluate evidence that will indicate that learners have demonstrated competence in each of the specific outcomes. In this unit standard the following specific criteria should be used:

    This unit standard has credits in excess of 15. The reason for this is that this unit standard forms the nucleus of a series of unit standards which, in their turn, lead to a total understanding of and ability to operate a combination of production machines. If this unit standard is sub-divided any further in order to reduce the number of credits, the meaningfulness of the applied competencies will be lost to the learner
