PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard is aimed at individuals responsible for the management, organising and motivation of members of a group to establish effective group cohesion to achieve overall group objectives.

Persons credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Organise members of a group and the group as a unit.
  • Manage the functions, expectations and performance of a group.
  • Motivate the members of a group and the group as a unit.
  • Develop channels of communication with and within a group.
  • Resolve problems arising with and within a group.

    Organise members of a group and the group as a unit. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Logistical preparations are completed according to specified criteria and organisational requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Requirements could include travel, accommodation, food and medical requirements, financial, clothing and personal items and preparation; which may relate to family, colleagues and clients.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Members of the group are received, introduced and welcomed on arrival. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Arrival organisation could include administration, registration, completion of indemnity forms, orientation and special clothing and equipment requirements.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Safety, rules and codes of conduct, are communicated to the group so as to ensure their actions contribute to the maintenance of the physical, mental and emotional well-being of the group.

    Related issues could include quality, results to be delivered, methods to be used and/or avoided, rules and conditions, safety requirements and time limits.

    The expectations of individuals and the group are determined and linked to the activities to be undertaken so that individuals understand the purpose of activities and how their needs are being met through them.

    Functions to be completed by a group are explained and monitored to ensure that the group is able to reach set objectives.

    Leaders and individuals requiring support are identified within a group through monitoring and observation.

    Diverse needs are identified and responded to in a positive manner.

    Group cohesion is developed through tasks, projects and activities; which require communication and co-operation.
