PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
The unit is specifically designed to standardise the achievement, which can lead to the designation: Senior Site Guide. When expert knowledge of more than one site has been achieved, an Advanced Site Guide designation may be awarded. The learner who achieves the credits for this unit standard will be able to research and plan a guided nature, cultural or adventure experience in an appropriate site in South Africa as is applicable to a selected Province in which guiding services are provided.
The training of site guides at this level will provide for well-informed persons who are able to interpret or utilise the relevant site at a high level. This higher level of knowledge and experience should substantially benefit the sub-fields. Persons credited with this unit standard will be able to: |

Conduct a research tour in preparation of a guided experience in a designated tourism site. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 |
General background information of a specific site is collected, assessed and evaluated so as to prepare for a guided experience. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 |
A route plan of the research tour is drawn up with due consideration for the size and complexity of the site. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 |
A report is compiled which contains detailed site information gathered during the research tour. |

A record is kept of site-specific equipment requirements. |
