PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard introduces the learner to the potential use of hand held electronic devices in a business environment and ways in which s/he may inadvertently compromise security personally or of the organisation.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Identifying hand held electronic devices that could have a useful business application.
  • Describing the potential upside risks of a specific hand held electronic device to a specific business unit.
  • Suggesting possibilities for client relationship management.
  • Investigating the potential downside risks of a specific hand held device for a business unit. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

    The potential business application of an electronic device is explained for a specific organisation/business unit. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The personal use of an electronic device is explained and an indication is given of how the device could be useful to an individual with specific reference to productivity. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Describe the potential upside risks of a specific hand held electronic device to a specific business unit.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The benefits of a hand held device are explained in terms of portability, transfer of data and efficiency. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The potential effect on time management is explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The effect on costs and profit are investigated for a specific device.

    Suggest possibilities for client relationship management.

    The competitive advantages of applying cutting edge technology are explained with examples. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Ways in which a device could be used to improve client relationship management are investigated for a specific business unit.

    Investigate the potential downside risks of a specific hand held electronic device for a specific business unit.

    The potential for industrial espionage is identified and an indication is given of the possible implications for a business unit. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The potential for fraud is identified and an indication is given of the possible implications for a business unit. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The risks associated with confidentiality are identified and an indication is given of the consequences to the organisation and the individual of breaching confidentiality.

    The risks associated with data integrity are identified and an indication is given of the consequences to the organisation and the individual if data security is compromised by an employee.

    Ways in which a device could be used to interrupt the availability of data are identified and an indication is given of the potential consequences for an organisation.

    The procedure to be followed if an employee inadvertently places an organisation at risk is explained with reference to hand held electronic devices.
