UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
1. Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

2. Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be registered with the FE/HE Registrar.

3. Any institution wishing to receive skill development grants must be accredited with the relevant ETQA. Such an institution will also be registered with the relevant SETA.

4. Moderation of assessment will be done by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.

Learning / Curriculum
This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required to locate and retrieve data from a computer. The computer system and the software programs will vary depending on the organisation.
  • Learning should include daily practice on the computer locating and retrieving data.
  • The learner should familiarise him/ her self with the organisational retrieval procedures as well as the system reference codes.
  • Special emphasis should be placed on the learner`s ability to retrieve data within the designated time frames.
  • A portfolio of evidence could be collected of copies of data that the learner has located and retrieved from the computer system. Information on the system reference codes should be included. Any other relevant information could be added to the portfolio of evidence.
  • Special emphasis should be placed on the learner`s ability to accurately enter and amend data within designated time frames.
  • Learners could explore possible dangers to computers and computer data (example: viruses, lightening, food & drink, not backing up data etc.). Recommendations for avoiding these dangers could be written up as a report and presented to the IT manager.
  • A portfolio of evidence could be collected of copies of data which the learner has entered, saved, modified etc. in the computer system.
