PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner will be capable of handing over a manufacturing operation or a part of a manufacturing operation for which he or she is responsible, to another person, ensuring that the manufacturing activities or maintenance continue in accordance with instructions and best practice. This promotes team work in the workplace, safety and productivity to the benefit of the learner, co-workers, employer and economy. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
The learner must be competent to carryout all the manufacturing work required in the specific learning environment and have appreciation (knowledge) of quality, productivity, health, safety and the environment concerning his or her work activities.
The learner must be able to communicate effectively using verbal and written (paper and or computer based) as applicable at the site where learning takes place. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
The range of work for which responsibly is hand over includes the operation of equipment in a manufacturing or processing operation.

1. The requirements for hand over of responsibility are explained in accordance with best practice and site specific instructions. 

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
2. The status of the operation/work for which the learner is responsible is reported in accordance with best practice and instructions using terminology applicable to the site where learning takes place.

Information includes actual operating parameters, status of process, material available, deviations from normal operating instructions, actual or potential abnormalities identified.

Documentation includes checking and updating the record of work for the period for which responsibility was assumed. This includes process variables, quality and process sampling and testing/checking carried out and observations made.
