PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to select and use relevant learning support materials and learning aids for facilitating learning in development practice projects. These projects are part of a broad development programme.

The learner may not necessarily acquire the skill to initiate or design materials but will be able to adjust or adapt certain materials to accommodate conditions in the learning environment that will enhance learning. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Apart from being familiar with a chosen and specialised field of knowledge, a learner studying towards this unit standard is assumed to have completed the following unit standards:
  • Support the facilitation of learning for development practice projects, NQF Level 1.
  • Understand the foundations of transformative development practice, NQF Level 1. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Learning materials include all aids such as media, cartoons, audio, visual, posters, pamphlets and videos.
  • Integration of learning aids and materials into learning events means that the materials are suited to the context, a learner and the learning topic, and that they are used in a way that enhances learning.
  • Adjusted or adapted learning materials or learning aids are limited to at least three conditions commonly occurring in development practice projects.

    Adapt the learning support materials to fit the learning environment.

    1. Situations where possible adaptation of learning materials and aids are required, are identified by providing evidence of such situations.

    2. A rationale for each adaptation is provided either in a presentation or a written task.

    3. Learning support materials and learning aids are presented in the adjusted or adapted format.

    1. Procedures for the usage and application of each selected piece of material and/or aid are demonstrated.

    3. The usage and application of learning materials and learning aids are evaluated in accordance with a set of criteria for effectiveness. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Accredited providers may establish or refine moderation procedures and systems in line with the requirements of the relevant ETQA.

    An external moderator may moderate the results of learners. External moderators should provide reports not only on the fairness and consistency of assessment, but also on the validity of the assessment design in terms of the specified outcomes.

  • Using certain equipment and technical learning support materials support using science and technology correctly and effectively. The unit standard supports this critical cross-field outcome. 

  • UNIT STANDARD ASSESSOR CRITERIA 
    Anyone assessing learners against this unit standard could be employed as a development practitioner in the same provider institution with at least a level 5 Qualification and work with a registered assessor in development practice with the relevant ETQA.

    Registered Assessors must have a level 5 qualification in development practice and prior or concurrent experience as a development practitioner.
