PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for people who are required to
! prepare Customs entries,
! to motivate and obtain Tariff Determinations,
! to motivate appeals against previous Tariff Determinations,
! to consult to the Forwarding and International Trade industries,
! to advise internal and external clients on possible exposures to over and under payments of statutory charges.

Individuals who are credited with this Unit Standard will be able to use information contained in source documents and tariff aids to classify complex commodities in terms of the Harmonised System, which may require motivational and negotiation processes to be undertaken at senior levels with tariffing authorities.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
The specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard are performed in a work context with distant supervision, with learners often being held responsible for the output of others. Learners are required to operate under self-direction. Learners are expected to demonstrate the ability to negotiate outcomes under guidance and to take personal responsibility for planning and delivery, in their pursuit of the achievement of the standards as described in the assessment criteria.
