PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD

This standard is in the elective category of the NQF Level 4 National Certificate in Footwear technology. Learners assessed competent against this standard will be able to implement techniques to produce bottom stock through coaching fellow employees, setting and adjusting machines and equipment as well as organising workflow of processes within a footwear plant. Learners involved in bottoms will use this standard.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Learners will have attained the NQF Level 2 National Certificate in Footwear processes.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE

Setting and adjusting will apply to all machines and equipment used in the cutting of bottom stock.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1

Coaching others to perform tasks relating to the production of bottom stock.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

1. The principles of effective coaching are understood and effectively implemented applying specified coaching techniques.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

2. The ability to coach a fellow employee to perform a new skill is demonstrated in compliance with standard operating procedures and industry norms on any one selected machine.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2

Setting and adjusting a range of machines and equipment.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

1. Machines and equipment specifications relevant to bottom stock manufacture are correctly identified and understood.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

2. The ability to set and adjust a range of machines applicable to bottom stock construction is demonstrated according to manufacturer specifications in compliance with standard operating procedures.

Organising workflow of processes to produce bottom stock.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1

1. A workflow of processes is organised where relevant processes pertaining to the manufacture of bottom stock is considered applying industry norms.

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2

2. A sequence of workflow operations is shown for producing selected bottom stock components is in accordance with standard operating procedures.

Operating procedures of an advanced range of machines used to produce bottom stock.

The cutting process as it relates to the complete process of manufacturing a range of footwear components.
