PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This standard is in the elective category of the NQF Level 4 National Certificate in Footwear technology. Learners assessed competent against this standard will be able to join cut components to produce uppers using a range of advanced machines and equipment through joining cut components, coaching fellow employees, setting and adjusting machines and equipment as well as organising the workflow of processes. Learners involved in closing will use this standard. |
LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING |
Learners will have attained the NQF Level 2 National Certificate in Footwear processes. |

1. Advanced machinery and equipment specifications are identified and understood applying manufacturers specifications. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 |
2. The ability to select the appropriate and operate safely a range of machines required to close 1 pair of uppers with a minimum of 8 pieces per pair (ex linings) according to a work instruction provided in compliance with standard operating procedures is demonstrated. |

Coaching others to perform tasks relating to the joining of cut components to produce closed uppers. |
