PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is for learners required to support and work closely with individuals, groups or communities in order to maintain psychological health and wellness. It will also assist learners to be aware of and identify potential risk behaviour in individuals within the context of a group, family or community.Such learners will also be able to develop skills in motivating and supporting individuals to deal with their risk behaviour in order to promote psychological health and wellness.

A person credited with this Unit Standard will be capable of:
  • Identifying relevant risk behaviours and indicating their implications
  • Compiling information that promotes psychological health and wellness
  • Identifying and applying strategies for changing risk behaviour
  • Measuring the effectiveness of the intervention 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
  • Prior knowledge of the facts around the specific risk condition under discussion, and related issues, and the implications for the psychological health and general wellbeing of the client e.g. TB, STI`s, HIV/AIDS, obesity, substance abuse, reckless driving, gender abuse (e.g. US health promotion) at a minimum of NQFlevel 2.

    3. Risk behaviours are identified and described in terms of their psychological, physical, social and economic impact on the individual, family, group and community. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Risk behaviours are practices that compromise quality of life and life expectancy of self and others in terms of physical, emotional, social and psychological wellness.

    1. The appropriate changes in risk behaviour for the individual or group are identified in order to promote psychological health and general wellness.

    3. A plan of action is compiled for implementation in order to change risk behaviour.
