PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner is capable of:

Compiling schedules for testing the quality of different types of concrete materials and correcting non-compliances identified during testing processes. Demonstrate knowledge of relevant SABS testing methods, causes of contamination and consequences of using contaminated materials.

Learners will be able to protect concrete material quality from contamination and maintain records of material quality test results.

The contribution to The National Skills Development Strategy is the key developmental interface between learners and new competencies to be achieved.

Learners who master the applied competence described in this unit standard will contribute to the development of a professional community of Civil Engineering Construction Concreting practitioners who are able to competently use science and technology to control the quality of concrete materials.

The contribution to socio-economic transformation is that learners will be able to undergo RPL-assessment and thereby receive recognition for previous learning and experience. This in turn will enhance the employability and career prospects of learners employed in this sector.

Assessment against this unit standard must be undertaken on site. On site refers to a wide range of building and construction environments within which trade skills are required, and includes concrete production and concrete construction sites.

Test results are checked for compliance with the specification and good concreting practice and properly and systematically recorded and reported in accordance with work place requirements.
