PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The qualifying learner is capable of:

Supervising the preparing, placing and finishing of concrete placed under water ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with safety legislative requirements and completed to the required dimensions. Demonstrate knowledge of under water concreting practice.

The contribution to The National Skills Development Strategy is the key developmental interface between learners and new competencies to be achieved.

Learners who master the applied competence described in this unit standard will contribute to the development of a professional community of Civil Engineering Construction Concreting practitioners who are able to effectively supervise work crews responsible for the preparing, placing and finishing of concrete placed under water.

The contribution to socio-economic transformation is that learners will be able to undergo RPL-assessment and thereby receive recognition for previous learning and experience. This in turn will enhance the employability and career prospects of learners employed in this sector.

Assessment against this unit standard must be undertaken on site. On site refers to a wide range of building and construction environments within which trade skills are required, and includes concrete production and concrete construction sites.

The consequences of incorrect positioning of the tremie pipe are explained in terms of productivity and quality of product.
