This unit standard will be useful to people who work in the civil construction industry.
People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of pipelaying activities and are able to prepare and install control valves.
Demonstrating knowledge of civil construction plant, equipment, and activities

The contribution to the national skills development strategy is the key developmental interface between learners and new competencies to be achieved.

Learners who master the applied competence described in this unit standard will contribute to the development of a professional community of civil engineering construction concreting practitioners who are able to competently use science and technology when conducting routine site tests to fresh and hardened concrete.

The contribution to socio-economic transformation is that learners will be able to undergo rpl-assessment and thereby receive recognition for previous learning and experience. This in turn will enhance the employability and career prospects of learners employed in this sector.

    Testing should include visual alignment, and water and air pressure tests.

    All legislated safety precautions are adhered to in terms of work carried out below ground level.

    The work area is neat, free of obstructions, water, and loose material, within specification tolerances, and adheres to all design specifications in accordance with given instructions and drawings.

    The area is set out to line and level to receive the control valves in accordance with contract requirements.
