PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD

Learners credited with this standard will be able to determine material requirements, quantities and time frames, determine material sources and supply material to various points in a particular process within textile processes.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Appropriate credits in literacy and numeracy at NQF Level 1.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE

Materials will include raw materials, processed material and products in the manufacture of polymers, fibres, yarns, non wovens and fabrics, and includes dye stuffs and chemicals, finishes and auxiliaries.

Materials will include only those that are input material to the product and excludes those out of direct control such as water, steam, air and electricity, where the supply of these are monitored and found of standard appropriate adjustments are made.

This standard applies to processes involving the manufacturing of polymers, fibres, yarns, non-wovens and fabrics and includes the preparation, dyeing, printing and finishing.
