PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for people who need to produce and/or modify feature-rich presentations for specific audience needs.

A person credited with this unit standard is capable of:
  • Creating and using templates in a GUI based presentation application.
  • Manipulating graphics/images and drawn objects.
  • Using charts/graphs to enhance presentations.
  • Using sound and video to enhance presentations.
  • Customising and controlling a slideshow. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that the learner is competent in the following:
  • Communication at NQF Level 2.
  • Computer Literacy at NQF Level 2.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Create and use templates in a GUI based presentation application. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A template is created for presentation purposes using available features. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Features include but not limited to background fill, graphic/image, bullets, font, outlines.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A new template is saved with a specific name in a specific folder. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A created template is used to produce a presentation which is saved using a specific name. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    A created template is edited according to user requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Manipulate graphics/images and drawn objects. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Drawn objects are grouped and ungrouped on a slide. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Selected graphics/images and drawn objects are distributed relative to the space available on a slide. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Background graphics/images are hidden from or added to slides. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Effects are applied to drawn objects to enhance presentation. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Effects include but are not limited to at least three (3) of Transparency, 3D, shadow, fill colour, fill pattern, fill effect.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Graphics/images are converted to facilitate printing and factual requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Converted include but are not limited to at least two (2) of greyscale, black and white, washout.
     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Use charts/graphs to enhance presentations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The relationship of information to be used in a presentation is discussed outlining advantages and disadvantages of linked sources. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Data is identified and sourced to create charts/graphs for use in presentations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Charts/graphs are created using sourced data. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Charts/graphs include but not limited to Pie, Line-Column on 2 axes.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Charts/graphs are imported from other sources for use in own presentation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Charts/graphs are formatted to enhance the presentation. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Formatting includes but not limited to at least five (5) but not limited to data series colours, font size, line style, line colour, border style, border colour, y-axis unit display, number, alignment, legend placement, scale, label display options.

    Use sound and video to enhance presentations.

    Enhance include but are not limited to entry animation style, automatic play timing.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Sounds are inserted and removed in a presentation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Videos are inserted into and removed from a presentation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Narration is added to or removed from a presentation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Testing and modification activities are undertaken in order to ensure that presentations meets user requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5 
    Customise and control a slideshow. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Customisation includes but not limited to creating, editing, hiding and unhiding slides, hyperlinking, including graphs.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Hyperlinks and action buttons are inserted into a presentation. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Hyperlinks and action buttons include but not limited to at least two (2) hyperlinks and action buttons to presentation, to slide, to email, to URL.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Hyperlinks and action buttons are used to navigate within a presentation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Presentation timings are rehearsed in order to ensure that timing requirements are met. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    A customised slideshow is run in accordance with specific audience needs. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard or assessing this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
