PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will be useful to people who are responsible to test, diagnose and locate a fault on a high voltage cable.

People credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Explain the requirements pertaining to testing and fault location on high voltage cables.
  • Prepare to test.
  • Test and locate fault.
  • Perform reporting and housekeeping practices.

    Permission to enter the workplace where applicable is obtained in accordance with specified requirements.

    The workplace is examined for hazardous and sub-standard conditions. Critical hazards and sub-standard conditions encountered in a particular context are addressed in a manner consistent with specified requirements.

    The switchgear indicating the fault is identified and the fault indication is interpreted in accordance with specified requirements.

    The work to be carried out is entered into a logbook in accordance with specified requirements.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider through the relevant ETQA by SAQA.
  • Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the moderation guidelines and the agreed ETQA procedures.
