PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to describe the various classification systems and to evaluate them in terms of their differences, advantages and disadvantages. The learner will also be able to create and maintain records according to the classification system and evaluate the classification system and make recommendations to authorised individuals.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Defining and explaining classification systems.
  • Applying classification system(s).
  • Evaluating classification systems.

    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.

    A description of the different classification systems is given in terms of key features and uses.

    Classification systems are evaluated in terms of differences, advantages and disadvantages.

    An analysis of the classification systems is conducted in terms of specific organisational requirements.

    Sequence of records in storage is determined by means of the classification system.

    Recommendations to streamline the classification system are made in order to meet identified needs.
