This unit standard reflects the skills, values and knowledge required by people in the field of Occupational, Health and Safety who are responsible for measuring barometric pressure by means of electronic and/or mechanical instruments.

Qualifying learners can measure the barometric pressure.

A person credited with this unit standard is able to:

    The effects of variations and fluctuations in barometric pressure are explained in terms of the consequences to occupational health, safety and productivity.

    The principle of operation and range of the selected electronic and/or mechanical instrument is explained in terms of operational requirements and manufacturers specifications.

    The handling and storage of the selected electronic and/or mechanical instrument is explained in terms of legal and operational requirements.

    The measuring positions and application of the selected electronic and/or mechanical instrument are explained in terms of operational requirements.

    Permission to enter the working place is obtained in accordance with site-specific requirements.

    The location where a barometric measurement is required is selected in accordance with measurement specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Possible risk and influence on accurate barometric measurement at the selected location is identified and dealt with in terms of measurement specifications and workplace conditions. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The required personal protective equipment is used in accordance with its design and specified requirements. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Use includes the checking of availability, examination, in working order, fit for purpose.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The selected electronic and/or mechanical instrument is used in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.

    Use includes examination, dealing with defects, handled and transported.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Conditions that may influence the accuracy of readings are dealt with in accordance with measurement requirements and worksite procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The barometric pressure is measured according to measurement specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The results are recorded in accordance with specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The surrounding area is continuously assessed and hazards and risks are dealt with in accordance with specified requirements.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The selected electronic and/or mechanical instrument is cleaned and stored in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and site-specific requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    If the selected electronic and/or mechanical instrument is defective it is reported and dealt with in accordance with worksite specified requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Reports are completed and submitted in accordance with legal and site-specific requirements. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant Education, Training, Quality, Assurance (ETQA) Body, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
