PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to apply all the processes and procedures required to carry out the measurement of virgin rock temperatures in a safe, efficient and effective manner.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The required personal protective equipment (PPE) is selected, operational, fit for purpose and used in accordance with its design and standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The importance of examining and using the correct equipment to carry out temperature measurements is explained in terms of the consequences to health and safety. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Temperature measuring equipment is selected which meets measurement requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Arrangements to enter the workplace are made in accordance with standard operating procedures and the risks of entering the workplace without authorisation are explained in terms of their impact on health, safety and operations. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The temperature measuring site is examined and hazards and risks are identified and dealt with in terms of their effect on health and safety. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    An explanation is given of the importance of examining the workplace and dealing with hazards and risks in terms of the possible consequences to health and safety.

    Virgin rock temperature is measured according to standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The temperature data are recorded and evaluated according to standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Inconsistencies in the data are investigated and dealt with in accordance with standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Work related hazards and risks relating to virgin rock temperature are identified and dealt with in accordance with safety requirements and standard operating procedures.

    Temperature measuring equipment is cleaned and stored in accordance with standard operating procedures.

    Defective/broken equipment is dealt with according to standard operating procedures.

    The consequences of failing to deal with defective/broken equipment are explained in terms of its impact on health, safety and operations.

    Reports are completed and disseminated in accordance with standard operating procedures and statutory requirements.

  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA or ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
