PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This unit standard is for those involved in ancillary health care and will be useful for health workers and lay counsellors encountering abused persons in the course of their work.

Signs of abuse include, but are not limited, to bruises of varying stages visible on the body, repeated/frequent hospital/medical treatment for injuries and/or fractures, inappropriate clothing for weather conditions to cover bruises/injuries, inappropriate awareness of sexuality in children, abrupt changes in behaviour, over solicitousness by a care-giver for a charge (child or elderly person), excessive clinging by a child to a particular adult, inappropriate malnutrition, sleeping difficulties. |

Assessment: Assessment of the unit standard may include observed role play on facilitating disclosure, testimonies from co-workers who mentor the learner, and a portfolio of evidence, which includes a case that has been assigned to the learner with all the relevant documentation. Credit Justification: Total hours required by the learner to achieve the required outcomes: Activity; Hours; Credits: Total: 60 Hours; 6 Credits. |
