PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard will equip learners with skills and knowledge to carry out tasks within their area of specialization in the Lumber Milling environment.

It is envisaged that learners enrolled in this Unit Standard will be able to perform basic tasks within the Lumber Milling industry wherein they will:

  • Define activities specific to area of specialization within the Lumber Milling industry.
  • Explain the relationship between product and the processing area.
  • Describe procedural activities per area of work/unit.

    Define manual handling and cleaning activities taking place within the working area of a Lumber Mill.

    Manual activities taking place are identified and explained according to relevant terminology. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Cleaning activities taking place are identified and explained according to relevant terminology. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Perform cleaning activities within working area. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Collect and clean all tools and instruments used for cleaning purposes and store in the designated storage facilities. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Remove all waste generated in the prescribed manner to the designated collection points. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Report any obvious malfunction of tools, instruments and equipment detected during the cleaning process, to the relevant person/s for correction. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Perform manual handling activities within working area.

    Manual handling includes but not limited to sorting, stacking, destacking and rolling of logs.
