    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The personal protective clothing and equipment that should be used while harvesting cut roses is identified and described in terms of company procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The potential hazards of using secateurs during the post harvest treatment of cut roses are described in terms of the injuries that may be inflicted on the worker. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The safety practices that must be followed while handling hazardous chemicals are demonstrated in accordance with the company's procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The necessity to adhere to the instructions of the control chemicals data sheet is explained in terms of the danger that the chemicals pose to humans and to the environment. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The safety precautions under cover crop spraying are explained in terms of the company's procedures for spraying. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The possible consequences of ignoring safety precautions are described in terms of the detrimental affect this may have on a worker's health.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The role that good plant hygiene plays in minimising the transfer of diseases is explained as per the company's procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The necessity of maintaining sharp secatuers for the harvesting of cut roses is explained in terms of the quality of cut that is effected. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The consequences of using blunt secatuers during the harvesting cut roses are described in terms of the effect this may have on the health of the rose bush when the stems are damaged. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The method of sharpening secateurs with a honing tool to ensure a "clean" cut is achieved is demonstrated in accordance with the company's procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The reasons for the regular cleaning and lubrication of secateurs are explained in terms of the necessity to maintain and preserve the components and the correct procedures to achieve this are demonstrated in accordance with the company's procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The environment and storage conditions in which secateurs and other rose harvesting equipment should be stored after use is described in regard to the need to ensure that these remain in prime condition.

    The importance of removing debris from the work place when harvesting cut roses is explained in terms of the necessity to maintain a tidy and pest free environment.

    The methods of identifying cut roses to be harvested for the purpose of maximising their longevity are demonstrated in accordance with the company's procedures.

    The practices for picking cut roses that serve to promote long vase life are demonstrated in accordance with the company's procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The handling practices that minimise the damage to cut roses as per the company's SOPs are demonstrated in accordance with the company's procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The procedures for wrapping harvested roses to enhance their appearance are demonstrated in accordance with the company's procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The practices for transporting cut roses on the farm and in the packhouse are demonstrated in accordance with the company's procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The necessity of providing sufficient water for the cut stems is explained in terms of ensuring that the optimum quality of this perishable product is maintained. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 7 
    The necessity of providing the correct storage environment for cut roses is explained in terms of the objectives of minimising losses and maintaining the optimum quality of the blooms. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 8 
    The procedures for documenting the harvested blooms are demonstrated in accordance with the company's procedures.
