PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD |
This unit standard is for persons working in the laundry industry. Learners credited with this unit standard are able to use a tumble dryer and organize and control the tumble drying process in a commercial laundry environment.

Plan and prepare items to tumble dry. |
OUTCOME RANGE |
Includes but is not limited to all textiles that need to be fully or partially dried by means of any machinery that uses hot or cool air to pass through the textiles whilst inside any machinery that produces a tumbling effect to the textiles. |

Care labels and symbols on laundry items are explained in terms of reaction to the tumble drying process on the items. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 |
Types of fibres and fabrics are described in terms of their reaction to the heat applied as part of the tumble drying process and how they must be dealt with during and after the drying process. |
ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 |
Items not suitable for tumble drying are removed according to the care labels and symbols on each item and redirected for alternative finishing methods according to worksite procedure. |

Suitable tumble dryer programme is selected per type of textiles to be tumble dried. |

Causes and prevention of spontaneous combustion is explained in terms of the tumble drying process and the handling, unloading and storage of tumble dried textiles. |

Tumble dryer is operated in accordance with worksite procedures and manufacturer's instructions. |

Malfunctioning tumble dryers are identified and stopped in accordance with worksite procedures and manufacturer's instructions. |
