PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will provide learners with knowledge and skills to encourage support and build effective relationships with communities and other key stakeholders and role-players through networking.

People credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Develop a plan to initiate and maintain networking opportunities in a community development setting.
  • Formulate a plan to action networking with relevant communities, structures and people.
  • Build and maintain networks.
  • Report on networking activities. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that the learner is competent in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 4.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4.

    Networking activities refer to but are not limited to:
  • Promotional activities, workshops, training programmes, funding, meetings, social gatherings and activities of mutual interest to community members and groups.

    Develop a plan to initiate and maintain networking opportunities in a community development setting.

    Networking is defined in terms of its purpose and potential outcomes. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Potential networking opportunities are explored at different levels in order to establish sustainable relationships and mobilise resources to meet planned outcomes. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Different levels include but are not limited to local, provincial, national regional and international.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A plan for developing contacts and relationships is formulated outlining key stakeholders and role-players, and potential opportunities for enhancing networking activities.

    Models of advocacy and lobbying are applied to ensure buy-in and support. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Advocacy and lobbying activities are explored to determine the best options for planned or potential interventions.

    Networking activities are investigated and planned to form and create links with potential stakeholders and role players.

    Formal and informal protocols and procedures are identified and applied in networking activities.

    A networking plan is negotiated and agreed to in terms of identified priorities with relevant authorities in a specific context.

    Networks and channels of communication are used to make contact and initiate discussions with identified stakeholders and role players.

    Selected activities from the plan are implemented for a specific purpose and outcomes.

    Possible working relationships are explored and maintained in order to promote sustainable partnerships.

    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • Anyone assessing a learner or moderating the assessment of a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable the achievement of this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.
  • Assessment and moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to the ETQA's policies and guidelines for assessment and moderation.
  • Moderation must include both internal and external moderation of assessments at exit points of the qualification, unless ETQA policies specify otherwise. Moderation should also encompass achievement of the competence described both in individual unit standard as well as the integrated competence described in the qualification.
