PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
To promote the pursuit of lifelong physical and mental well-being. Persons credited with this unit standard will be able to: analyse and describe chemical dependency and its consequences; understand and practice preventative and primary health care; demonstrate an understanding of gender and sexuality and demonstrate a practical knowledge of accessing health care services.

    3. An understanding of the basic requirements for healthy pregnancy and childcare is demonstrated.

    4. An understanding of the basic requirements for the care and needs of the aged is demonstrated.

    5. An understanding of the basic requirements for the care and needs of the disabled is demonstrated.

    6. Understanding and practice of basic first aid is demonstrated.
