    UNIT STANDARD NOTES
Recommendations and exemplars for the design of learning curriculum:

This unit deals with the skills and knowledge required for strategic business planning and management.
  • Learning should include research on current business trends, economic issues, internal /external business environments and relevant government policies.
  • The learner must be able to apply this knowledge to a specific industry context.
  • The learner should explore different business planning techniques.
  • The learner must be able to express ideas, concepts and complex issues clearly in a logical, written format when developing the business plan.
  • Training and assessment of this unit should take place over an extended period of time in order to give the learner sufficient time and experience in this field.
  • Learner could present research in a report format or as a discussion topic.
  • Learner could be given a business plan to develop, implement and monitor for a department/new product. Management should evaluate the content and implementation of the business plan. An integrated approach is required.
  • A portfolio of evidence relating to workplace experience would be relevant. This should be collected over a period of time to allow the learner the opportunity to deal with issues of implementation and ongoing monitoring/review of the business plan.
