PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit is a core standard in the qualification National Certificate in retail/wholesale sales and services at NQF 4. It is designed to create an efficient process for controlling stock in a world-class retail/wholesale outlet while ensuring individual skills recognition 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Computer literacy in terms of data capture and display. Numeracy at NQF Level 3. Basic retail/wholesale administration skills to NQF 2 Level 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Source document information including quantities of stock received, order numbers, prices, locations, quality, delivery time, descriptions of merchandise, bar codes, sizes, packing, product, dates, invoice numbers, returns
  • Manual/electronic information outputs including goods received vouchers, invoices, stock inventories, stock returns,?

    Criteria against which stocks of merchandise are evaluated including damaged stock, out-of-season merchandise, expired ranges of merchandise, discontinued ranges of merchandise?

    Techniques for controlling stock-holdings of merchandise including stock counts, monitoring the rate of sales, counting high risk lines of merchandise, minimising damage to stock, controlling mark-ups and mark-downs, controlling stock holdings against budget
