PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard will be useful to people who interact with children or intend to interact with children in the context of a church or Christian ministry.
People credited with this unit standard are able to:
  • Understand and appreciate children's ministry,
  • Develop positive relationships with children,
  • Help children grow in christian maturity,
  • Involve children in the ministry of a local church,
  • Mobilise a local church to care for children in a community
  • Provide pastoral care to emotionally wounded children. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    The credit calculation is based on the assumption that learners are already competent in terms of the following outcomes or areas of learning when starting to learn towards this unit standard:

  • Children are regarded as people before 14 years of age.
  • Ministry refers to all the activities of the church (including non-aligned Christian organisations) that serve the purpose of the church, that is to bear testimony to the Kingdom of God.
  • Assessment for this unit standard is based on the assumption that the learner would have regular direct contact with children.
