PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is for those learners who manage knowledge and who are involved in Organisational transformation and Change Management.

In particular, on completion of this Unit Standard, the learner will be able to:
  • Analyse the essential elements of the Knowledge Economy.
  • Identify the essential features of the Human Capital in an organisation.
  • Provide an analysis of the Structural Capital in an organisation.
  • Indicate how an organisation uses its Customer Capital.
  • Establish the relationship between Intellectual Capital and Knowledge Management.
  • Demonstrate the potential relationship between Knowledge Management and Organisational Transformation. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in Communication at NQF Level 4. 

    UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • The learner is required to apply the principles enunciated within OT & CM in one organisation only.
  • The emphasis is on the construction and management of appropriate and effective Employment Equity programmes within the company.
  • The underlying principles of Knowledge Management must be applied to effecting Organizational Transformation.

    An analysis is given of what makes up a Knowledge Company.

    The characteristics of a Knowledge Worker are documented and explained with examples that relate to the work done by the worker in an organisation.

    Identify the essential features of the Human Capital in an organisation.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The characteristics of Human Capital are outlined in terms of what they mean for organisations in general. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The characteristics of Human Capital are outlined in terms of what they mean for organisations that are about to undergo organisational transformation and management change. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Provide an analysis of the Structural Capital in an organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The features of Structural Capital in an organisation are outlined using a flow diagram. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    An analysis is presented of the Structural Capital in a specific organisation by comparing it with the traditionally adopted model for such an organisation. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Indicate how an organisation uses its Customer Capital. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The term Customer Capital is defined using examples from an organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    An analysis is presented of the Customer Capital in an organisation and the role it plays in the running of the organisation. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5 
    Establish the relationship between Intellectual Capital and Knowledge Management.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    An outline is provided of the features of Knowledge Management in an organisation. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The relationship between the Intellectual Capital of an organisation and its Knowledge Management processes is clearly outlined with practical examples in written form.

    Demonstrate the relationship between Knowledge Management and Organisational Transformation.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The way in which a Company's Knowledge Management strategy can impact on Organisational Transformation is explained in a written report with examples of negative and positive impact. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The relationship between the Knowledge Management strategy and the Employment Equity strategy of a Company is outlined using the terms of the Labour Equity Act as the basis. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed (including through RPL) against this Unit Standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA, or by an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this Unit Standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or with an ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the relevant ETQA .
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this Unit Standard or assessing this Unit Standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.
