PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this Unit Standard is to enable Construction Contractors to comply with the legal requirements of a construction contract. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
FETC NQF Level 2 literacy and numeracy competencies. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
1. Legal entities and registrations include WCa, UIF, NHBRC, Local Authorities, Inspectors of Explosives, Buildings Inspectors, Safety Inspectors, RSC, Skills Development (CETA), etc.
2. Incidents include accidents related to the OHS Act.
3. Statutory requirements include current national building regulations applicable to construction, including acts and regulations, ordinances, by-laws, directives, standards, guidelines, and codes, issued by a legislative body such as parliament, provincial administrations, local authorities and other bodies so empowered by any of the former.
4. All pertinent national legislation, Acts and Regulations are included.

Assessment of learner achievements takes place at providers accredited by CETA (RSA, 1998b) for the provision of programs that result in the outcomes specified for the Certificate in Construction Contracting. CETA is responsible for moderation of learner achievements of learners who meet the requirements of this unit standard.
