PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION 
This qualification is registered at level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework. It provides learners with the opportunity to access learning in broad Grain Handling processes and practices, which include opportunities for learners to grow in the specific field.

Learners will be able to combine fundamental, core and elective unit standards in order to gain competence linked to best practice. Learners will, once qualified and assessed as competent, be able to demonstrate competence in storage of stock, control of stock, shunt railway trucks, measure consignment mass, unload grain consignments in bulk, intake of grain, drying of grain, cleaning of grain, apply storage hygiene, dispatch grain and provide effective administrative support. Learners will also demonstrate an understanding of the Grain Handling Industry. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners will have attained a qualification at NQF level 1 on the National Qualifications Framework or have demonstrated competence at this level through recognition of prior learning.

  • ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 
    INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT:

    Learners will produce evidence of the following:

    * Verbal and written explanations of reasons for adhering to operational- and work site procedures as well as statutory requirements, adhering to specific sequence of operations, taking corrective actions, identifying, recording and reporting deviations and capturing data.

    * Demonstrations of a range of operational actions, receiving, unloading, drying, cleaning, storing and dispatch grain and applying general safety in the work place.

    * Use a range of computer hardware to input data on the computer system and produce basic reports. 

    INTERNATIONAL COMPARABILITY 
    This qualification is comparable to the Nieu Zealand qualification. 

    MODERATION OPTIONS 
    Anyone assessing a learner against this qualification must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA.

    Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this qualification, or assessment against this qualification must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.

    Moderation of assessment will be overseen by the relevant ETQA according to agreed ETQA procedures.

    Therefore anyone wishing to be assessed against this qualification may apply to be assessed by any assessment agency, assessor or provider institution which is accredited by the relevant ETQA. 

    REREGISTRATION HISTORY 
    As per the SAQA Board decision/s at that time, this qualification was Reregistered in 2012; 2015.
